MANILA — The family of a Filipino doctor who went missing following a deadly flash flood that struck villages and trekking routes in Nepal on Aug. 26 is appealing for help in locating him.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Chiara Manalo said her brother, Juan Carlos Manalo, had been traveling with an Isha Foundation group as part of its Kailash Yatra tour. He has not contacted his family since the disaster.
“Any information or news about him or his group would be greatly appreciated. Receiving and seeing the news about the catastrophe has been very difficult for us,” she said.
“We humbly ask that you include him in your prayers, that he may return to us safely soon,” she added.
According to Manalo, her brother last contacted the family on Aug. 25 at 1:21 p.m. Philippine time. He was last known to be with his tour group at the immigration office in Gyirong.
Isha Foundation founder Jaggi Vasudev, popularly known as Sadhguru, earlier said that 80 members of the group—including one Filipino—had been inside the building shortly before it was swept away by floodwaters.
The Philippine Embassy in India, which has jurisdiction over Filipinos in Nepal, said it is closely coordinating with the Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Kathmandu and Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs. Local authorities are also communicating directly with first responders.
“Makakaasa po kayo na sinusundan namin ang mga pangyayari, lalo na ang kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan,” Philippine Ambassador to India Josel Ignacio told Radyo Pilipinas.
Ignacio said the embassy would immediately share any confirmed developments and remains ready to assist Filipinos affected by the disaster.
