DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac has reminded the 23rd batch of domestic workers heading to Kuwait of their duties and responsibilities toward their employers during the pre-flight briefing held in Mandaluyong City on Friday, November 22, 2024. He urged them to adhere to the laws and regulations of Kuwait, emphasizing that their behavior reflects not only on themselves but also on the Philippines as well.
During the briefing, workers were reminded of their rights and responsibilities. Additionally, they received information about the local culture, customs, and traditions of Kuwait, along with valuable tips for effectively interacting with their Kuwaiti employer. In cases of maltreatment or abuse, workers are encouraged to visit or contact the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) for immediate assistance. Alternatively, they can call the One Repatriation Command Center (ORCC) at 1348 for help.
Since the resumption of deployment, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has sent a total of 2,456 to Kuwait, of which 125 are skilled workers and 2,331 are domestic workers. This number also includes 45 direct hires who were deployed to members of the Kuwaiti Royal Family.
Further, the DMW has implemented e-monitoring to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipino workers deployed to Kuwait.
To enhance the protection of domestic workers being recruited for jobs in Kuwait, the DMW issued Memorandum Circular Nos. 1 and 2, series of 2024, to guide the recruitment agencies included in the whitelist on the recruitment and deployment process.
The DMW remains committed to prioritizing the well-being of these workers abroad, ensuring that their rights are upheld while also promoting positive relations between the Philippines and Kuwait.
