Bassam Al-Shammari is an activist working in the field of domestic workers. He says that a group of Filipino domestic employees will arrive in Kuwait in a few weeks after a nearly one-and-a-half-year absence. Al-Shammari said the first batch of 27 Filipino domestic workers will arrive in Kuwait on Saturday. This will mark the beginning of a large group of 210 workers. Once their official documentation has been completed, additional batches are expected.
Al-Shammari emphasized that Kuwait remains the most affordable Gulf Country for recruiting domestic workers. He also said that the “white-list and black-list” policy enforced in the Philippines has increased the time required to complete the necessary paperwork.
Munir Al Asimi, a domestic workers office owner, echoed that sentiment and stated that “the market urgently needs thousands of domestic workers.” He said that Kuwaiti domestic workers are in high demand, along with Indonesian and Nepalese workers. However, he noted that agreements with Ethiopia still haven’t materialized.
