Stricter Measure to Protect OFWs

Sen. Raffy Tulfo urges the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to enforce stricter measures to ensure the protection, safety, and well-being of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Presiding Monday’s hearing, August 12, 2024, of the Committee on Migrant Workers, Tulfo said the committee recommended the adoption of stricter measures to ensure the constant monitoring of OFWs.

“The DMW and OWWA should improve and intensify their systems for monitoring, communicating, and in rendering support and immediately assistance to our OFWs. License recruitment agency should equally share the burden of strictly monitoring their deployed workers, and their capacity to do so must be closely watched by our agencies,”

Tulfo stressed. The committee tackled Senate Resolution No. 1086, on the enforcement of stricter monitoring measures on overseas OFWs in relation to the deaths of OFWs Jelyn Arguzon and Riolyn Sayson, and a briefing by the DMW, OWWA, Department of Foreign Affairs, and National Bureau of Investigation regarding illegal recruitment activities and scams that victimized OFWs.
