A joint statement on the resumption of the recruitment of Filipino workers abroad between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of the Philippines

• Lifting the ban imposed by the Kuwaiti side, and allowing the issuance of all entry visas and work visas for Filipino nationalities.

• Allowing the recruitment of Filipino domestic workers who have previously worked abroad and have experience.

Based on the friendly relations between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of the Philippines, and the sincere desire of both sides to strengthen bilateral working relations between the two countries, a bilateral meeting was held yesterday, Sunday, 6/23/2024, at Seif Palace, headed by His Excellency Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers. The Ministers, the Minister of Defense and the Minister of the Interior, and the Philippine side was represented by Mr. Bernard Olalia, Deputy Minister of Migrant Labor of the Republic of the Philippines. The two sides resolved the issue of resuming the import of Filipino workers to the State of Kuwait, and after extensive discussion, the following was basically agreed upon:

1- Lifting the ban imposed by the Kuwaiti side, and allowing the issuance of all entry visas and work visas to Filipino nationalities.

2- Allowing the recruitment of Filipino domestic workers who have previously worked abroad and have experience.

The two sides agreed to establish a joint technical working committee composed of the competent authorities in both countries, which will meet periodically to address employment-related issues and address all concerns that may arise in the future. When resolving the issues presented to the joint technical working committee, the two governments confirm their commitment to the legal approaches and frameworks in accordance with For the “Domestic Workers Employment Agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the State of Kuwait” signed in 2018.
