Overseas Filipino Workers will soon be able to renew their driver’s licenses online, without returning to the Philippines personally to restore it.
Department of Migrant Workers Sec. Hans Leo Cacdac stated Sunday that the initiative was designed to “cut red tape” from the renewal process.
“Ang kahilingan usually ng Filipino community ay ‘yung magkaroon ng mobile license renewal services ‘yung LTO (Land Transportation Office) sa ibang bansa. Cacdac stated in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo Story Outlook that this will require mobilization of personnel and resources.
The official clarified, however, that this was merely an announcement that the initiative was in the works and has not yet been implemented.
“‘Yung mga detalye, isasagawa pa nila LTO Asec. Vigor Mendoza at magkaroroon pa ng pangalawang issuance [ng memorandum]… Pasimula pa lang ‘yan. Cacdac said, “Mayroon pang follow-through.”
Cacdac responded that they plan to implement the service in one or two months.
Cacdac also added that, if the service was a success when it was implemented to OFWs it could be implemented locally. However, Mendoza stated that it would be “in due course” and that the focus is on the OFWs.
The initiative was first announced on Friday, June 7, which coincided with Migrant Workers’ Day.
