Converge, a leading Philippine fiber broadband provider, is providing free fiber-fast connectivity for thousands of overseas Filipino workers in NAIA Terminal 1. This will enhance their digital experience in the Philippines’ transit hubs.
The OFW Lounge, which was inaugurated in January 2024, is a relaxing, modern facility that is dedicated to the country’s heroes of today. Now, with Converge connectivity, it has 500 Mbps upload/download speeds.
“We applaud this project of House of Representatives and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Migrant Workers(DMW), Manila International Airport Authority (MIIA), to provide a designated area for our hardworking kababayans as they await their flight. We have offered our fiber broadband connectivity to them for 2 hours as a contribution to this effort. If they are Converge FiberX subscribers or Surf2Sawa subscribers, they will have 6 additional hours of internet access.
Logging on to the landing page of Converge, OFW passengers can enjoy complimentary internet access. Existing Converge subscribers will have a separate landing page, where they can also get additional hours of connectivity.
This free Wi-Fi initiative is aligned to the company’s fourth sustainability pillar, Creating Positive Impact on Communities. Azada also stated that efforts like this align with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, specifically the strategies Reinvigorating services and Enhanced Connectivity. Two very relevant outcomes include: (1) enhancing intersectoral links through increasing internet coverage, speed, and network; and (2) seamless connectivity by addressing universal connectivity and mobility needs.
“We are proud of our partnership with the government to provide free Wi-Fi for public spaces. This latest facility at NAIA Terminal 1 is no exception. “Our OFWs deserve nothing less than seamless, high-quality connections to keep them in touch with their loved ones and employers abroad,” said Converge CEO Dennis Anthony Uy.
Converge has completed the roll-out its Free Wi-Fi Project in all terminals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. In the next few months, Converge will be bringing fiber broadband to eight more airports across the country.
