In a concerted effort to curb the growing issue of expatriate bachelors being housed in private residential properties, the Committee for Combating the Issue of Bachelors Residing in Private Residential Properties has made a significant apprehension.
Represented by the Emergency Team of the Hawally Governorate Municipality Branch, the committee identified and detained an individual from Bangladesh who operated under the name “Al-Sharif”.
This individual was found to be contravening Kuwait’s established housing regulations by transforming properties into rental rooms and apartments designed specifically for foreign bachelors.
Ibrahim Al-Sabaan, spearheading the operation as the team leader, unveiled details of the meticulously planned operation. According to him, the committee’s actions were far from unilateral.
They collaborated seamlessly with the Ministry of Interior, specifically its Investigation Department, to keep a close watch on the questionable activities of Al-Sharif. This intensive surveillance combined with an in-depth investigation and research led them to unearth undeniable evidence that this Bangladeshi expatriate had indeed transgressed the stringent municipal norms of Kuwait.
His activities also brought him in conflict with regulations set forth by the Ministry of Electricity and Water, as indicated in a report by Al Rai.
Delving deeper into their discovery, Al-Sabaan highlighted the expatriate’s modus operandi. They observed his frequent movements across a number of properties situated in the bustling Salmiya district.
Their surveillance unravelled that he was renting out more than just one or two properties. In fact, the individual had operations running in more than six properties, an act which clearly flouted the country’s laws on housing and property rental.
Acting promptly on their findings, the committee ensured that Al-Sharif was detained without delay. Post-apprehension, he was subsequently referred to the relevant authorities for instituting appropriate legal proceedings. Given the nature of his contraventions, it is anticipated that he might face deportation from Kuwait.
This incident sheds light on the broader issue of illegal property rentals in Kuwait, targeting expatriate bachelors. It also serves as a testament to the commitment of Kuwaiti authorities in upholding their housing regulations and ensuring that such illicit activities are nipped in the bud.
Such proactive measures not only safeguard the interests of legitimate property owners and tenants but also maintain the order and integrity of Kuwait’s housing market. The authorities have reiterated their resolve to continue such operations in the future, signalling their intent to root out similar unlawful endeavours.
