A Filipina household service worker (HSW) worker in Kuwait was found lifeless inside her room.
When Gladys Olarte Fong, was found by her employer identified as Fahad Naji Ibrahim Alholi, she was already hanging and had a cut on her wrist.
Fong was taken to the hospital following the distress call of her employer. However, she was declared dead on arrival.
“Per report, she was found dead in her room hanging with a cut on her wrist,” says Labor Attache to the Middle East Nasser Mustafa.
According to the data acquired from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the OFW’s agency is TMJ International Manpower Services and she was deployed on April 19, 2019. She stayed with the same employer for the past three years.
To determine the real cause of death, the remains of Fong underwent a forensic examination.
In another story, an OFW was rescued by an advocate group after she was allegedly abused by her employer.
The employer of Eleonor Argote, a household worker, refrained her from using her mobile phone, subjected her to physical and verbal abuse, didn’t give her salary and days off.
The OWWA office sent a reminder to the employers of Argote that there is an existing Philippine-Kuwait agreement that allows household service workers to open a bank account where they can get their salaries and be allowed to have one day off.
Despite the reminder, the female employer of Argote refused to follow, prompting the OFW to escape and sought refuge at Kuwait’s OWWA office.
