The public has been alarmed following the spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Kuwait. However, according to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Mustafa Reda, the Kuwait airport can’t shut down because it will only become a burden to other countries. It should only coexist with the coronavirus so as not to worsen the situation.
According to the health undersecretary, the spread of the virus could be due to two reasons. First is the continuous mutations of the virus. Delta was the first mutation that alarmed the public but now, Omicron has become the cause of the fast-growing number of cases. Second is the public’s non-compliance to the precautionary measures set by the government like social distancing and proper wearing of masks.
Vaccination drives are strengthened as well as booster doses. The public is also advised to take seriously the health protocols set by the government. Unnecessary travel must also be avoided as this may cause more harm than good.
With regards to the lockdowns and curfews, the health minister said that “We hope that we will not go back to square one. With a strong health system, we have passed it, everything is on time by taking measures to protect the society.”
Generally, vaccination doesn’t provide full protection from getting infected with the coronavirus. What is contributes is the lower risk to health, rate of infection as well as transmission. Currently, the number of infected individuals is under control and the ICU cases and hospital admissions are also quite a few.
