Kuwait To Prohibit the Transfer of Children’s Residency Visa To Their Mothers

Kuwait’s General Administration of Residency Affairs recently stopped the transfer of residency visas of children into their mothers in such a case wherein their fathers leave the country permanently, when his residency ends or when he is deceased.

A local newspaper reported that the residence affairs department from six governorates acquired an instruction to stop the processing of transactions concerning the transfer of residency visa of children from their father to their mother.

The only exception to this regulation is the following:

  • Female teachers working at the Ministry of Education
  • Female workers at the Medical and Nursing Authority of the Ministry of Health
  • Female doctors from the General Department of Criminal Evidence

Recently, Kuwait has made efforts to reduce the number of expatriates in the country in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is said that Kuwait wanted to balance the number of foreign workers in their country and the Kuwaiti nationals. Accordingly, the current number of Kuwait population is at 4.3 million, 3 million out of it were ex-pats and only 1.3 million are locals.

Kuwait wants to resolve the problem in which its locals have become a minority in their own nation. Because of this Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah proposes to reduce the number of ex-pats to 30 percent from the previous 70 percent.
