Kuwait Gives 3 Months Grace Period To Expats With Expiring Visas

Kuwait offered a three months extension to all expatriates with expiring visas. There will also be a grace period of 1 year instead of the previous 6 months given to expats stranded abroad.

According to sources, the decision was made to “allow expatriates who have valid residence and are outside Kuwait that residence will be valid for 12 months instead of 6 months due to the exceptional circumstances faced due to coronavirus crisis.”

Additionally, there will be an extension of 3 months given to all types of visit visas, work visas, domestic workers visa, and other circumstances in which the residency procedure was incomplete.

The new decision by the Ministry of Interior provides a grace period that will start on May 31, 2020, until August 31, 2020. The extension is done automatically through the computer. It includes expats in Kuwait with residencies of all kinds, those expatriates who entered the country through visit visas, and those with expired visas.

It is also mandated that expats will no longer have to login as a business owner or sponsor on the official website of the Ministry of Interior as their residency will be automatically renewed for the given grace period of 3 months.
