Public Authority for Manpower has launched a new unified labor contract that regulates sponsor-worker relations after distributing copies in both Arabic and English to various labor departments. The new contract includes 16 clauses including a preliminary one defining both parties, the job a worker is hired to do in Kuwait, both sides’ capacities, conditioning a 100-day probation period during which the contract could be terminated by either side without prior notice, a monthly payment that cannot be reduced during the contract duration, the contract duration and the date on which it takes effect and renewability for a maximum of five years.

The new contract also includes subjecting renewability to both sides’ approval, conditioning a fully-paid annual leave after working for at least nine months in the first year, limiting working hours to eight hours including a one-hour break, mandating the sponsor to pay the expenses of returning a worker to his/her country on concluding the contract and departing Kuwait, mandating the employer to insure a worker against job hazards and paying health insurance, giving a laborer indemnity according to laws, defining the laws and courts applicable in case of disputes, possibility of adding special clauses, that Arabic is the reference language in case of legal disputes and making three copies of the contract – one for each party and one to be deposited with the manpower authority.
