Helen Riobuya Sarocam, 41, married with kids and a native of Monkayo Compostela Valley Province in the Philippines allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of the agency accommodation in Hawally on May 22 after reportedly suffering from depression due to homesickness. She fell straight on a windshield of a car parked down the building and died on the spot.
According to Sarocam’s agency, she arrived in Kuwait on Dec 19, 2014. Her first employer returned her to the agency after she complained that she had some problems with her lady employer.
Last May 20, her second employer took Sarocam back to the agency after she allegedly complained of homesickness and she wanted to go home. Her agency asked her to execute an affidavit at the Philippine Embassy in Faiha on May 21, stating the reasons why she wanted to go home. In the copy of the affidavit obtained by the Arab Times, Sarocam stated therein that she misses her kids and family and she just wants to go home and cannot complete her two-year contract anymore and asks the embassy’s help.
The agency agreed to let her go home and was supposed to leave on May 24 but she allegedly committed suicide at around 5am on May 22. “She seemed to be emotionally and mentally disturbed when she arrived in the agency accommodation. She barely talked and had hardly eaten. We really don’t know what happened to her,” stated the agency secretary who requested for anonymity..in the agency accommodation.
