The increased cost of acquiring a domestic helper in Kuwait is believed to be the cause of the deliberate suspension of hiring domestic helpers from more than 12 countries.
This news has been confirmed by Fadhel Ashkanai, the head of Kuwait Association for Domestic Workers Bureaus. The 12 countries are Indonesia, Nepal, Uganda, Ethiopia, Mali, Tanzania, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Madagascar, Congo, and India, although the three main domestic worker countries are Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Cameroon.
Ashkanai explained that the cost of hiring a domestic worker increased from KD160-220 to KD260-300. Furthermore, the rate of bringing domestic workers into Kuwait has reduced significantly because of a more complex process, the process made more complex due to some unknown individuals
