200 monolithic dome houses will be built at a relocation site in Dapitan in preparation for natural disasters.
According to Michael Scott, Philippine Country Manager of Monolithic home builders in the U.S., the houses will be made from basalt (rock derived from lava), which cannot be destroyed by super typhoons, earthquakes, or fires.

The 200 houses will be built in Dapitan because the local government is “aggressive in having the technology”, although the government plans to build these houses in places hit by Super Typhoon Yolanda.
The 200 informal settler families will be the recipients of the houses, which will be funded by the National Housing Authority (NHA). Scott said that the dome houses cost at least P290,000, but it is guaranteed to last for centuries. In fact, it can withstand typhoons of up to 400kph.
